Statement from HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra on Black History Month
As we pay tribute to the Black trailblazers and visionaries who have shaped our history during this Black History Month, it is imperative to lift-up and recognize the impact of Black leaders in health and reaffirm our work to ensure that our African American and Black communities have access to the care and resources they need.
At the Department of Health and Human Services, we are dismantling systemic barriers and advocating for policies that uphold health equity, to pave the way for a future where Black individuals in America can finally access the healthcare they deserve. This means taking action to extend access to affordable, quality healthcare, destigmatize mental health, and address our country’s maternal health crisis, that is disproportionately impacting Black mothers.
Together, we can build a society that safeguards the well-being of all, transcending racial distinctions.
