Case Example Cornell, Press Release

This page describes a settlement agreement reached between Cornell Prescription Pharmacy (Cornell) and OCR where Cornell agreed to pay OCR $125k and adopt a corrective action plan to settle potential violations of the HIPAA Privacy Rule. This settlement stemmed from a Denver news outlet notified OCR of the disposal of unsecured documents containing the PHI of 1,610 patients.
