The erwin Data Modeler tool has enjoyed broad usage at CMS for over two decades. It is a top-flight entity-relationship modeling tool that provides the necessary documentation and graphical representation of data requirements to support communication within and among IT project teams.

erwin Data Modeler is the preferred data modeling tool used in the delivery of DAES services. These services include consultation and guidance on this tool.

CMS has historically provided a limited number of licenses to IT project teams to encourage the data modeling practice. For more information on obtaining a license, please contact the software license management staff:  SoftwareLicensesCMS@cms.hhs.gov.
