Guidance on Adding Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Questions to State Medicaid and CHIP Applications for Health Coverage
The purpose of the SOGI questions is to enhance consumer experience by allowing consumers to attest in a way that better reflects and affirms their identities, improve demographic data collection to identify disparities in access to care and,
ultimately, to support appropriate and equitable health care. These three new optional questions
will complement the existing “sex” question, which will continue to be required (see Table 1).
