Health Status Monitoring

Guidance for health status information on groups of Medicare beneficiaries impacted by DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program.

Issued by: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

Issue Date: November 12, 2019

As of January 1, 2024, there’s a temporary gap in DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program (CBP). However, we’re continuing to conduct real-time claims analysis to:

  • Protect the interest and safety of Medicare beneficiaries
  • Monitor the health status of groups of Medicare beneficiaries for all product categories included in the DMEPOS CBP in competitive bidding areas (CBAs) and non-CBAs

See below for health status results. Each file includes a written summary and graphical displays of key indicators reflective of the health status of patients and their access to DMEPOS CBP items and services. The data is derived from claims for Medicare populations in each CBA and a corresponding "comparator" region that’s similar to the CBA. We issue semi-annual updates starting with Q1 2021.

HHS is committed to making its websites and documents accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with disabilities. We are in the process of retroactively making some documents accessible. If you need assistance accessing an accessible version of this document, please reach out to the guidance@hhs.gov.
