Information on School-Based Services in Medicaid: Policy Flexibilities and Guide on Coverage, Billing, Reimbursement, Documentation and School-Based Administrative Claiming

The purpose of this informational bulletin is to introduce the comprehensive guide Delivering
Service in School-Based Settings: A Comprehensive Guide to Medicaid Services and
Administrative Claiming that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), in
consultation with the U. S. Department of Education (ED), is issuing to improve the delivery of
covered Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) services to enrolled students
in school-based settings and to meet the requirements of Section 11003 of the Bipartisan Safer
Communities Act (BSCA) (P.L. 117-159).
