Managed Care Emergency Services Post-Stabilization Care Coverage
This letter is a follow up to the State Medicaid Director's (SMD) letter that was issued on February 20, 1998 (#12 in the
series of letters on managed care) providing guidance on the implementation of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997(BBA).
That letter explained the changes made by the BBA regarding coverage of emergency services by managed care
organizations (MCOs).
