Medicaid & Indian Health
Medicaid is a State-Federal health care program for individuals and families with low income and limited resources as determined by the state where they live. Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) serve as a critical health care resource for AI/ANs. More than one million AI/ANs are enrolled in coverage through Medicaid and CHIP. There are special protections for AI/ANS enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP, such as no cost sharing, and exclusion of certain types of Indian trust income and property in determining eligibility.
