Provider Specific Data for Public Use in Text Format

Guidance for file containing information about the facts specific to the provider that affects computations for the Prospective Payment System

CMS has begun an effort to modernize the Provider Specific File. We want to improve your experience and would like to hear your improvement suggestions! No ask is too small.

Please email ModernizingMedicare@cms.hhs.gov with the subject line "Provider Specific File Feedback" with your suggestions. The team will only respond to messages related to the Provider Specific File.

If your concern is related to the PSF data contained in the files, please contact the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) with the provider’s local jurisdiction with any questions or concerns you have related to the PSF data or the PDS files. MAC jurisdiction responsibilities information can be found on the CMS website using the following link: https://www.cms.gov/mac-info [cms.gov]


The Medicare Administrative Contractor maintains the Provider Specific File (PSF).  The file contains information about the facts specific to the provider that affects computations for the Prospective Payment System. The Provider Specific files in text format are located in the Download section below for the following provider-types:

  • Inpatient
  • Skilled Nursing Facility
  • Home Health Agency
  • Hospice
  • Inpatient Rehab
  • Long Term Care
  • Inpatient Psychiatric Facility
  • Outpatient

As of October 2023, only CSV files are accessible.
