Pub 100-03 Medicare National Coverage Determinations: Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty of the Carotid Artery Concurrent With Stenting

Guidance that announces CMS has decided to make no change to the national coverage determination (NCD) for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of the carotid artery concurrent with stenting (CAS). This is the result of a request CMS received to its revise policy on CAS to cover patients at high risk for carotid endarterectomy (CEA) due to defined anatomic factors, and who have either symptomatic carotid artery stenosis of 50-69% (or greater) or asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis of greater then 80%.
