Pub. 100-04 Medicare Claims Processing: Payment For Services Provided Under a Contractual Agreement

Guidance that revises and deletes certain sections of the claims processing manual on reassignment. Changes are: (1) a carrier may make payment to an entity enrolled in Medicare that submits a claim for services provided by a physician or other person under a contractual arrangement with that entity, regardless of where the service is furnished; and (2) the contract between the entity and the physician or other person should include joint and several liability between the entity submitting the claim and the person actually furnishing the service, for any Medicare overpayment relating to such claim, and the person furnishing the service has unrestricted access to claims submitted by the entity for the services provided by that person.
