The Recovery and Adjustment of Medicare Claims where the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) also Made Payment Using the Medicare Duplicate Payment (DP) Process

The purpose of this Change Request (CR) is to include the recovery of duplicate payments when both Medicare and the Department of Veteran Affairs made payment for the same services. CMS and associated stakeholders previously designed and developed an automated Duplicate Payment (DP) process to assist in adjusting and recovering Medicare claims. This change request (CR) updates the current Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) duplicate payment (DP) process to include and instruct A/B and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) MACs to use the automated DP process to adjust and recover VA claims that Medicare mistakenly paid.
