Reduced Payment for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Services Furnished In Whole or In Part by a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)
The purpose of this Change Request (CR) is to fully implement Section 53107 of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 that requires CMS to make a reduced payment at 85 percent of the otherwise applicable payment amount based on the physician fee schedule (PFS) for physical therapy and occupational therapy services when they are furnished in whole or in part by a PTA or OTA for dates of service on and after January 1, 2022 when claims contain either the CQ or CO modifier.
