Guidance for incorporating statutory changes that have occurred since the 1977 enactment of the Medicare-Medicaid Anti-Fraud and Abuse Amendments (Pub. L. 95-142), which amended section 1903(a) of the Act to provide for Federal participation in the costs attributable to establishing and operating a MFCU; Guidance for aligning the rule with practices and policies that have developed and evolved since the initial version of the rule was issued in 1978, 43 FR 32078 (July 24, 1978), now codified at 42 CFR part 1007; and Guidance for revising the regulation to reduce burden on the Units, when doing so does not undermine OIG's oversight role or the Units' mission.
