Warning Letters vs. Corrective Action Requirement (CAR) Letters for Part C
Guidance for Medicare Advantage Organizations and 1876 Cost Plans clarifying the difference between warning letters and Corrective Action Requirement (CAR) letters in the Part C program. Warning Letters are formal CMS notices that identify an area of unacceptable performance that requires immediate action to redress a limited and quickly fixable situation. CAR letters are issued by CMS when an area of concern is identified that requires a formal plan for a demonstrated cure.
