The Office of Pandemics and Emerging Threats (PET) works to strengthen international biological security and biosafety across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as well as other U.S. Government departments and agencies. These collaborations foster sound policy and best practices for biosafety and biosecurity, including working with multilateral bodies to develop guidance, tools, and resources.
The Office of PET works with the Department of State and other federal departments and agencies to ensure U.S. implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention. We support a range of biological policy issues at the intersection of national security, public health, and science. The Office of PET also works across HHS to improve biosafety and biosecurity measures that can be utilized across the global community for United Nations Security Resolution 1540 and the Global Partnership and the Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction.
